  • Wednesday, July 3, 2024

    Observations from the Point Arena Lighthouse peninsula and from Saunders Reef

    No whales seen at either site

    At PAL:

    64 harbor seals

    1 osprey

    1 red-tailed hawk flying with a gopher in his/her talons

    1 great blue heron

    23 brown pelicans flying north

    2 adult ravens and two of their offspring nearby

     

    At Saunders Reef:

    6 pelagic cormorants

    Observations from the Point Arena Lighthouse peninsula and from Saunders Reef

    No whales seen at either site, however;

    a blow was seen by Shari Goforth-Eby from the Lighthouse but it was knocked down quickly by the wind and the whale was not seen again

    At PAL:

    74 harbor seals

    2 great blue herons

    3 black oyster catchers

    At Saunders Reef:

    1 osprey

    1 pelagic cormorant

    No whales seen at either site

    At PAL:

    31 harbor seals

    1 Northern Harrier

    1 red-tailed hawk

    18 brown pelicans

    1 charismatic raccoon

    1 deer

    At Saunders Reef:

    1 osprey

    No whales seen at either site

    At PAL:

    67 harbor seals

    2 black oyster catchers

    2 adult ravens tending to two of their offspring

    13 brown pelicans

    Observations from  the Point Arena Lighthouse peninsula and from Saunders Reef

    Windy and many whitecaps at both sites

    No whales seen at either site

    At PAL:

    64 harbor seals

    1 red tailed hawk

     1 charismatic raccoon

    two parent ravens feeding two of their offspring on the cliff opposite of where they nested
