OBSERVATIONS TODAY FROM GERSTLE COVE IN SALT POINT STATE PARK IN NORTHERN SONOMA COUNTY:
The morning began with excellent visibility until fog rolled in and remained for approximately 90 minutes. When the fog disappeared, visibility was once again excellent and we could see to the horizon. The wind picked up throughout the day.

TUESDAY, MAY 27, 2025 END OF SEASON REPORT FROM POINT VICENTE
AMERICAN CETACEAN SOCIETY Los Angeles Chapter (ACS/LA) ACS/LA Gray Whale Census and Behavior Project Update:
The Gray Whale Census Project that takes place at the Point Vicente Interpretive Center ended their 41st season with a new record low southbound gray whale count (130), a new record low northbound count (485), a new record low southbound calf count (zero), and a new record low northbound calf count count (eight). Their southbound calf percentage was 0% (0/130) – they have never before missed seeing southbound calves; last season this was 9.8% (22/225). Their northbound calf percentage was 1.6% (8/485); last season, it was 5.9% (34/579 northbound grays)
